Everest Base Camp Trek without the Lukla Flight

Everest Base Camp Trek without the Lukla Flight

The Everest Base Camp Trek without the Lukla Flight takes you along the classic trekking paths of the first climbers and trekkers. It’s an ideal choice for those looking to enjoy the real beauty of the Everest region and also skip the flight to Lukla airport.

Our trip Everest Base Camp Trek without the Lukla flight begins in Kathmandu, travel by a jeep. It is a long but a beautiful drive that follows a paved road to Salleri, taking about 8 to 10 hours. After Salleri, we switch to a dirt road for the remaining 3 to 5 hours until we reach Kharikhola, the starting point of our trek to Everest base camp. We will start our trek from a lower altitude than Lukla, it is a longer trek and it provides several days to acclimatize before reaching Everest Base Camp makes this trek a great option for acclimatization.

Along the way, we will pass through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, and finally reach at Everest Base Camp. This is the closest we can get to Mt. Everest without needing mountaineering gear. There’s also an optional hike to Kala Patthar, the highest point of the trek.

If you have time, we highly suggest you to think about this trip. The weather and the visibility at the Lukla area is very unpredictable but we don’t have to think about it as we travel by the road. We don’t have to worry about the unpredictable bad weather, no need to think about the often disrupts Lukla flights, delays and cancelation.

We suggest not to plan for the Everest Base Camp trek by road during the monsoon season. The road to the trekking starting point is not paved so planning this trek during the monsoon season is not the best idea. The period between mid October to December and from January to May are the best time for this adventure.
